Are you registered to vote in the general election on 6 May?

In a Parliamentary election, also known as a general election, every area of the country votes for one Member of Parliament (MP) to represent them in the House of Commons.

You can only vote in elections if your name is on the register of electors, which is prepared by the electoral registration officer at the district or borough council.

Local government elections are held once every four years for councillors to be elected for each of the divisions in the county.

20Deadline for registering to vote in person or by post.
You will need to have made your registration to vote in person or by post by 5pm on 20 April 2010.

20Deadline for application for a proxy vote.
You will need to apply by 5pm today if you can't attend a polling station on 6 May 2010 and want to nominate someone to place the vote on your behalf. If on 6 May an emergency occurs when you were intending to vote in person you can apply for an emergency proxy on the day.
